Benefits of Telephone Marriage Counseling
After you read a self-help marriage book that you really like, how often
do you get to actually talk with the author? Marriage counseling is not the
same as fixing your car-there are subtleties and complexities that might
require individualized work.
Even working with someone trained by the author is not the same, and looking
for a marriage counselor in the yellow pages could yield someone totally at
odds with what you want.

or even across the ocean to speak directly with the marriage counselor
you are already familiar with.
Marital phone counseling works the same as marriage counseling in the office.
You each are on the telephone with the marriage counselor. The convenience is that one
of you could be talking from your office, or from your hotel in another city, while the other
is at home with the babies asleep in the other room.
Counseling by phone for your marriage or relationship typically also provides a more intense experience
because you are using only the sense of hearing.
You might not know that using your health insurance for marriage counseling probably requires
at least one of you be given a diagnosis of having a "mental illness." Many insurance plans do
not pay at all for marriage counselers, and virtually all plans will not pay for phone counseling.
The benefits to paying out-of-pocket: no record of mental health services stored in the insurance database,
and no review and storage of revealing and intimate details about your personal life and your marriage
to justify payment by your insurance company.
